Testosterone Replacement Therapy

Andropause is a complex hormonal deficiency syndrome that usually develops in most men between the ages of 40 and 60 years, in which men experience lowered levels of testosterone. Symptoms of Andropause may include loss of libido, fatigue, increase in belly fat, joint aches, diminished physical performance and recovery, hot flashes, sleep disturbances, reduced mental clarity, a decrease in skin quality, and changes in mood that could include feelings of depression, and a lost sense of well being.

Testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is the primary way to combat the effects of andropause. TRT can be administered in the form of inject-able testosterone’s / testosterone gel/creams. All of these therapies can help men with low testosterone, and restore them to youthful levels. Our Testosterone Replacement Therapy Treatment is carefully formulated to help alleviate most symptoms of male Andropause. Our team at The Men’s Clinic will help you revive the man you once were!

SYMPTOMS OF LOW TESTOSTERONE

Interesting Facts About Testosterone

  • There are three pillars of health - exercise, nutrition, and hormone optimization. As we age our testosterone declines. This is correlated with a decline in health and vitality. Testosterone optimization combined with a disciplined lifestyle utilizing exercise and healthy nutrition is a proven and very effective approach to preserving youth and prolonging health span

  • Because of the frequent abuse of synthetic anabolic steroids, especially in the bodybuilding community, there has developed a stigma associated with ANY use of testosterone. Bioidentical testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) at optimal doses monitored by a physician is proven not only safe, but extremely effective in disease prevention and promoting physical and metabolic health.

  • Study from Science Daily: Men with low testosterone had an 88% increase in risk of death compared to those with optimal levels. The effect persisted even after variables such as age, other illnesses and BMI were controlled

  • Numerous studies have shown that a chronic low testosterone level in men is associated with increased cardiovascular events and all-cause mortality and the association gets stronger as men age.

  • TRT favorably changes cardiovascular risk factors by decreasing fat mass, both subcutaneous and visceral fat, and improving insulin sensitivity, thus decreasing the chances and/or severity of diabetes.

  • Low testosterone is correlated with an increased risk of obesity and metabolic syndrome. It is also associated with a lower quality of life and poor general health.

  • TRT definitely benefits sexual desire as well as erectile and orgasmic function.

  • TRT improves bone mineral density, mood and energy.

  • TRT potentiates an increase in lean body mass (muscle). But keep in mind, this effect is largely dependent upon adequate protein intake combined with some level of resistance exercise.

  • There is no scientific basis for any age specific recommendations against testosterone therapy.

  • Regardless of age, men respond to testosterone therapy when their level is low.

  • TRT does NOT increase the risk of prostate cancer. Maintaining optimal levels of testosterone has even been shown to protect against the development of prostate cancer. (Ever noticed that prostate cancer does not occur in young men in their 20s and 30s, when their testosterone levels are at their peak?)

  • TRT may cause or worsen BPH, but the mechanism of effect is self-limiting (due to enzyme saturation at a certain hormone level) and thus, is generally not a significant issue.

  • Testosterone has anti-inflammatory effects.

  • A study following more than 70,000 men for a long period of time showed no relationship between testosterone replacement and blood clots. There has never been a cause and effect relationship established

  • The most consistent symptoms of low testosterone are: decreased energy, lack of motivation, depression, irritability, impaired memory, decreased mental clarity, poor sleep, joint pains, decreased libido and erectile dysfunction

  • In men with low testosterone, muscle size can diminish in spite of exercise, and body fat percentage tends to rise. TRT combined with a disciplined work ethic is proven highly effective in reversing both of these effects.

  • Maintaining optimal testosterone levels is very effective at decreasing brain fog and improving mental clarity and is also believed to be beneficial in preventing the onset of Alzheimer's disease.

  • There is not a clear cut correlation, but testosterone optimization has been shown in several studies to be beneficial in improving blood lipid levels, including cholesterol.

  • An important fact that many men and even many doctors do not understand is that you can have a measured testosterone level that falls within the "normal range" of today's lab parameters and still have significant symptoms of testosterone deficiency. There is no lab-value number that reliably predicts which men will respond to TRT. Therapy is aimed at treating SYMPTOMS, not a NUMBER.

  • Never forget that stressful life events and inadequate sleep can override the beneficial effects of testosterone. Some things in life we CANNOT control, but exercise, nutrition, and hormone optimization, WE CAN. Combining a strong work ethic with consistent discipline in these areas will go a long way in helping us overcome the negative effects of these stressful life events.

  • If you start testosterone therapy because of symptoms resulting from a true physiological low level (inadequate production), in almost all cases, you should never come off therapy. Levels will be suppressed even more upon ceasing TRT and your health will decline even more. Once TRT is initiated, it generally should be for life. It is intended for lifelong health, NOT a quick temporary "pump" in the gym!

  • There has been shown to be a trend over the years toward a diminishing production of testosterone in men. It is well documented that levels of testosterone in men of today's generation are significantly lower than prior generations. This is believed to be due to multiple factors including increases in environmental toxins in our food, air and water supplies. Also contributing is the change in lifestyle from generation to generation. We have evolved from generations which were more engaged in labor of tending crops, hunting and building outdoors to more recent generations in which men are much more sedentary, primarily indoors and frequently seated behind an office computer. Another contributing factor is the increased use of medication's such as antidepressants, anxiolytics and opioid pain medicines as an attempt to fix life problems. These and other factors have contributed to gradually declining testosterone levels in men through the years. Thus, supplementation is needed more in today's generation than ever before.

  • Most importantly, the primary goal of this clinic is to optimize health and to be proactive in disease prevention. And that is exactly what is accomplished when you pursue a life of healthy living with consistent exercise, healthy nutrition, and optimization of your hormone levels. We are here to help you accomplish these goals.
